How do I know if I’m eligible to renew my Driver’s License online?
The following are not eligible to renew via the Internet:
- Any Commercial Driver’s License
- Any license that is not currently valid (expired 6 months or more)
- Any license where the information on file is not current
- Any Valid without Photo Driver's License
How do I obtain my photo license once I receive my camera card to renew?
Your camera card will be mailed to you within seven (7) to ten (10) business days. To receive a new photo license, take the camera card and another type of identification, such as a driver's license or ID card, to a Driver License and Photo License Center. A list of
Driver License and Photo License Centers and required forms of identification will be provided with
the camera card.
What if I don’t receive my camera card within ten (10) days?
Contact PennDOT. Include your driver’s license number with your inquiry. You can expect a response to your Email within 2 business days. Saturdays and Sundays are not considered business days.

How do I get a duplicate Driver’s License if my license was lost or stolen?
To obtain a duplicate driver's license, you must complete a Non-Commercial Driver's Application to Change/Correct/Replace (
Form DL-80). If you are a commercial driver, complete an 'Application to Replace/Correct Commercial Driver's License' (
Form DL-80CD).
How do I change my address on my Pennsylvania Driver’s License or Photo ID?
Pennsylvania requires that you report any new address to PennDOT within 15 days of moving.
For non-commercial driver's licenses, you may change your address using our
Online Services or you may complete a Non-Commercial Driver's Application to Change/Correct/Replace (
Form DL-80) and drop it in the mail. We will send you a Driver's License Update Card.
For Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDL), complete 'Application to Replace/Correct Commercial Driver's License' (
Form DL-80CD). You will need a replacement CDL to show the new address. Fee information and instructions are included on the back of the form.
For Photo ID Cards, you may change your address using our
Online Services or you may complete a Photo Identification Card Application to Change/Correct/Replace/Renew (
Form DL-54B).
Can I renew an expired license?
Any previously issued license that is already expired or within six months of the expiration date can be renewed unless it is:
- A Commercial Driver’s License or
- Not currently valid (suspended, revoked, disqualified, cancelled)
Must I renew my Driver’s License for a four-year period?
Only drivers over 65 years of age have the option of renewing for a two-year period at a reduced fee.
How can I sign up to become an organ donor?
You will be asked if you would like to be an
organ donor when you appear at the Photo License Center to have your photo taken.
Can I apply to register to vote or change my voter registration address when renewing my Driver’s License?
You will be asked if you would like to apply to register to vote when you appear at the Photo License Center to have your photo taken.
You may change your voter registration address at the same time you change your Driver's License address using our
Online Service.
You may also wish to visit the State Board of Elections website at
www.dos.state.pa.us for additional information on voter registration.
Can I change my driver’s license class?
The class of your license cannot be changed using the Internet.
If you wish to apply for additional privileges, you must complete an application for a learner's permit for the requested class.
Form DL-31 is the Non-Commercial Learner's Permit Application to Add/Extend/Replace/Change/Correct and
Form DL-31CD is the application to 'Add/Extend/Remove Commercial Learner’s Permit'.
I have just moved to Pennsylvania. How do I transfer/apply for a Driver’s License? How soon must I apply?

How can I receive information about restoring my driving privilege?
If you are unaware of what is required to have your license restored,you should obtain a restoration requirements letter from PennDOT, which outlines the specific steps you must complete to have your driving privilege restored. You may access your restoration requirements letter
online or by contacting PennDOT's Customer Call Center at 1-800-932-4600 (in-state) or (717) 412-5300 (out-of-state). You should be prepared to provide your Pennsylvania driver's license number (if known), along with your name, date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number. If you choose not to access your restoration requirements letter online or by contacting PennDOT's Customer Call Center, a letter will be mailed to your address of records approximately 30 days prior to your eligibility date, outlining everything you need to do to have your driving privilege restored. The restoration requirements letter is provided to you at no cost.
Important note: Please be sure to print your restoration requirements letter once you access it online because PennDOT will not mail you a copy. If you are unable to print your letter once you access it online, please contact PennDOT's Customer Call Center to obtain a copy.
Can I hold two valid driver's licenses?
No, it is illegal for a person to hold more than one valid driver’s license issued by Pennsylvania or by any other state.
